If trying to answer the phone and dealing with a screaming baby simultaneously or having to clamber over a mountain of toys when answering the door to a client is all part of your remote working life in Greenwich, you need help. Implementing the tips below from Alliance Tutoring can ensure a calmer, more manageable environment when working at home with toddlers or babies.

Be Flexible

Being flexible is a necessity when working at home with babies or toddlers. You may need to try several methods before you discover one that suits you and your child. Babies and toddlers quickly get into a routine and often take their daily naps around the same time, so address your more complicated tasks around this time.

It’s unrealistic to think you can work at the kitchen or dining room table when toddlers are around. They’re likely to be constant visitors demanding your attention. Try to designate a space solely for work, such as a spare room, your bedroom, or a basement, but don’t get too attached to your new workspace. Kids aren’t known for staying still and are likely to discover your work area soon.

Create a Schedule

It’s essential to plan your day in advance by creating a schedule. Everyone’s schedule is different, but here’s one example:

  • 6:30 a.m.: Get everyone fed, dressed, and washed.
  • 7:30 a.m.: Go for a walk outside with your baby or toddler, or try a mom and baby workout if it’s raining.
  • 8:30 a.m.: While you’re handling simple tasks, such as sending emails and planning the rest of the day, involve your toddler by giving them an old phone or computer that’s turned off and letting them work beside you.
  • 9:30 a.m.: Do your work while your toddler plays with toys independently beside you or takes a nap.
  • Noon: Lunchtime. Eat together, preferably outside. This provides your child with a change of scenery.
  • 1 p.m.: Offer your toddler a favorite book to read or a video to watch while you tackle some work.
  • 2 p.m.: Naptime for your baby or toddler. Tackle some work or chores, or enjoy some me-time.
  • 4 p.m.: Engage with your little one. Fun activities help keep things calm.
  • 5 p.m.: Dinner.
  • 6 p.m.: If you have a partner, you can handle some work while they take over bath-time duties.
  • 7 p.m.: Bedtime
  • 7:30 p.m.: Finish off any work, and plan for the following day.
  • 8:30 p.m.: Relax.

Earning a Degree for Better Job Prospects

If you’re looking to change your job but lack certain skills, an online degree may be the answer. The flexibility of some degree programs allows you to work at your own pace, so you can keep your regular job and care for your kids. If your aim is to develop your business acumen, whether business management, leadership, or marketing, going back to school allows you to achieve your dream.

Enjoy a Work-Life Balance

Figuring out how to work at home with toddlers or babies isn’t easy, but it’s possible. By being flexible and creating a schedule, you and your child can enjoy a work-life balance.
