We were brought up in traditional settings: competitive private schools and universities, gaining exceptional knowledge through our respective journeys of idiosyncrasy. We turned to education, excited by the possibility of “kindling flames” in the young people we recognized as the promising former versions of ourselves, a bit stuck in the muck between late adolescence and early adulthood. At some point, not fully satisfied with the limitations of classroom teaching, we turned to individualized instruction, bringing to bear all of our talents in teaching, coaching, and mentoring, providing comprehensive guidance, doing whatever it takes. We seek to stabilize the wayward, to secure the precocious, and above all, to catch the bodies coming through the Rye.Â
